About Age UK Croydon
Age UK is the UK's leading independent charitable body committed to the well being of all older people. It is a new national body formed by the merger of Age Concern England and Help the Aged.
As a caring organisation we are committed to the effective promotion and delivery of good quality services and projects to enable people to get the most from later life.
We undertake to influence policy and practice and change views about ageing in order to create greater understanding about the needs of older people - both in terms of their care and the opportunities they seek to help make later life a fulfilling and enjoyable experience.
We will do this by applying our experience in new and ingenious ways to meet needs.
Age UK Croydon is a voluntary organisation which exists to serve the interests of all older people in the London Borough of Croydon. We provide a wide range of services, from information and advice about an extensive range of issues of importance to older people, to insurance services, volunteering opportunities, and support for those who may be housebound or isolated.
In the past we have been viewed as a charity for elderly people, but at Age UK Croydon we want to highlight what is positive about age. People in later life can do things that younger people can’t, like speaking with wisdom or knowing things from first-hand experience. They deserve to be listened to and represented in their local communities and Age UK Croydon will provide the voice to do just that.
Age UK Croydon is an independent organisation,with a Board of Directors, many of whom are residents of Croydon, and include representatives of organisations working with older people. The Board of Directors oversee the management of the organisation and aims to be representative of the broad ethnic community of Croydon.
Age UK Croydon staff and Board Members play an active role on strategy and policy making bodies in Croydon, where they represent the interests of older people.
Age UK Croydon works in partnership with the national Age UK charity, which campaigns vigorously at Government level on behalf of all older people.
Age UK Croydon is a quality organisation. We hold the CLS (Community Legal Service) Quality Mark and Investing in Volunteers Quality Mark.
Age UK Croydon is a registered charity, and a company limited by guarantee.
