Our Personal Safety Service aims to help older people who have fallen or are at risk of falling at home, by identifying and helping to reduce risks and hazards. It is available to anyone aged 55 or over who lives in the Borough of Croydon.

For any older person who has experienced, is at risk of, or has a fear of falling, we can carry out a comprehensive risk assessment to highlight potential causes of falls in the home; and any remedial work needed – such as tacking down carpets, fixing curtain tracks, clearing slippery paths or steps etc – can be carried out. This is a free service, although a charge may be made for materials.

We can arrange for additional stair rails, grab handles, etc to be supplied and fitted. We can also provide supportive and secure slippers for those who have difficulty finding safe and comfortable footwear for use at home.

We can also carry out free Home Fire Safety Checks, provide or check smoke alarms, and advise on everyday safety precautions.

As part of NHS Croydon's Integrated Falls Team, we can make an onward referral to other services, such as assessment by occupational therapist, or domiciliary physiotherapy, for those with more complex needs.

Following referral and initial risk assessment, the project can provide ongoing telephone support for up to six weeks to monitor the risk of further falls.

We will be pleased to give a talk to promote our service to organisations such as lunch clubs, day centres, neighbourhood care groups, church groups etc. Click here to contact us for such a talk.

The Personal Safety Project is funded by NHS Croydon and the City Bridge Trust.
